Writing From the Soul: Finding Meaning in Your Life Story

“Writing is a process, a journey into memory and the soul,” said Isabel Allende. When we write about our memories and the experiences that have had the most impact on our lives, we are writing from our souls. From that place of vulnerability and truth, we discover insight and wisdom in the old stories we have told countless times or perhaps, have never told at all. In the process of writing, linking hand to heart, we become reacquainted with our true selves, reclaiming our voices on the page, and refusing to succumb to silence or censure. In this workshop, we will write about our most challenging life stories, discovering new meanings within those stories and identifying common threads that run through our life narratives. We will explore how our stories can impact the decisions we make in our lives and reconsider the plot of the story that is yet to be written. Each workshop session will consist of an introduction of topic, discussion and examples, writing exercises, and time to witness one another’s work.

This workshop is open to anyone who wishes to discover new meaning in the experiences of the past, reconnect with his or her core sense of self, explore new avenues of growth, and preserve the value of memories.  No writing experience is necessary.

“Writing will help you unravel the knots in your heart.” ~ Louise DeSalvo, Writing as a Way of Healing: How Telling Our Stories Transforms Our Lives
